In December we had an idea with my dear friends Odysseas and Gianpietro to create a food experience based on the Odyssey, the adventurous journey of Odysseas from Troy to Ithaca.
Odysseas read a lot about the story and its meaning and Gianpietro wanted all the dishes to consist of ancient ingredients found in the Mediterranean which got us into many rounds of trials and errors and GP staying up patiently all night trying to figure out how to make dolmadakia without rice...
But we finally got there! Here is the menu we offered our guests:
We had two full long tables of guests to serve and a show to run. Odysseus was a brilliant narrator! He made an introduction to each dish telling our guests the story of the Odyssey: what the soldiers ate after their victory in Troy, how Odysseus' crew managed to pass through the big monsters Schylla and Charibdis, how god Hermes helped him not to turn into a pig by the cunning witch Circe and how he finally managed to trick the young suitors in Ithaca and take back his palace and queen.
Here are our starters:
Our main and dessert:
And this is the dream team!
Everyone enjoyed the experience, the food and the story but I think we, the cooks and the narrator enjoyed it the most... So we'll be back for more!
